There Is No Away: Own Your Impact at Home.

Own Your Impact: Recycling Starts at Home

For years, we’ve been told that solving the packaging waste problem depends on consumers placing waste in the right place, better recycling systems, new infrastructure, government policy and industry-wide change.

Those things matter. But we don’t believe we should have to wait.

At Salty, we believe one of the most powerful things we can do is give people the ability to own their impact, starting at home.

That thinking sits at the heart of Misty Lady & Dusty Thunder, our certified AS5810 home compostable vacuum packaging. PFAS free, certified, renewable and earth digestible packaging.

THE PROBLEM:
Conventional plastic and its fragments can simply become a smaller piece of persistent plastic. That never goes away.

THE SOLUTION:
Certified AS5810 home compostable material has been tested to demonstrate both disintegration and microbial digestion under home composting conditions, as well as meeting requirements designed to ensure the resulting compost is safe for plant growth.

Packaging Designed for a Different Ending

Most conventional vacuum packaging is made from multiple layers of fossil-based plastic. Once it has done its job, there are very few practical options for what happens next. In most communities, it cannot be recycled through kerbside recycling and ultimately becomes waste.

We wanted to change that.

Misty Lady and Dusty Thunder were designed not only around how packaging performs while it is being used, but around what happens when its job is finished.

Both are certified AS5810 home compostable, allowing the packaging to be organically recycled in a home composting environment.

Instead of putting used packaging into the rubbish bin or wish cycling it away in recycling bins, households can take responsibility for that material themselves.

From Waste to Resource

There is no away. Soft plastics don't go away.

Organic recycling uses biological processes to break suitable materials down and return them to the natural cycle. In a home compost system, microorganisms digest certified home compostable materials and packaging as well as organic waste into biomass, CO₂ and water.

It means the end of a product's useful life doesn't necessarily need to be the end of its value.

For us, that's a fundamentally different way of thinking about packaging. Use it. Reuse it where possible. Organically recycle it at home.

We Don't Have to Wait

Waste infrastructure is complicated. Governments, councils, manufacturers, retailers and the waste industry are all working through ways to manage plastics, recycling, composting and circularity.

Food-grade PCR can be significantly more expensive than virgin plastic due to the specialised collection, sorting, decontamination, processing and testing required to meet food-contact standards. With virgin plastic still relatively cheap, using food-grade PCR at scale is often not a viable commercial reality, despite the desire to increase recycled content in food packaging. The commercial reality of recycling is a challenge.

Those systems will continue to evolve. But individual action doesn't have to wait for every part of the system to be solved.

Misty Lady and Dusty Thunder give households, communities and organisations another choice: packaging designed so that, after use and reuse, it can enter a managed biological cycle rather than automatically becoming destined for landfill or materials that are unable to be recycled.

That creates something we think is incredibly important:

agency.

The ability to make a purchasing decision, use a product and then participate in managing its end of life.

Own Your Impact

We cannot individually redesign an entire waste system.

But we can change what happens in our own homes.

We can choose materials more carefully.
We can reuse what we can.
We can compost our food and garden waste.
And increasingly, we can choose certified packaging designed to join that organic recycling system too.

Misty Lady and Dusty Thunder are about making that choice possible.

Because creating a more circular future isn't only about waiting for someone else to build the perfect system.

It can start in your own backyard. Certified AS5810 Home Compostable materials and packaging give us piece of mind that the packaging will be completely digested by microorganisms back into soil.

Own your impact. Materials Matter. There is no away.
